Greater Cleveland Voter Coalition Recent Events
- Coalition representatives Judy Gallo, Marcia McCoy and Norman Robbins testified in January, 2005 at Congressional hearings held in Columbus on election irregularities in Ohio. The hearings were called by ranking House Judiciary Committee member Rep. John Conyers. Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones, Rev. Jesse Jackson were instrumental in bringing these hearings to Ohio and providing Ohioans the opportunity to testify.
- The Coalition presented written testimony prepared by Professor Norman Robbins and former co-convener Judy Gallo to the U.S. Elections Assistance Commission hearings on experiences with provisional ballots in the November, 2004 elections. Education committee chair Jocelyn Travis attended the hearings, held Feb. 223 in Columbus, on behalf of the Coalition. Read the full testimony.
- The Coalition prepared a position paper on which voting system is preferable for voters in Cuyahoga County. By a decision of the Steering Committee, the Coalition presented this position paper to the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections and to the Cuyahoga County Commissioners on Feb. 24. The Coalition position is that optical scan machines are preferable to electronic voting machines because they are easier for voters to use, more accurate, and less costly to purchase.
